Vacuum Testing

Vacuum leak testing is the principal leak test method for testing parts that could have leakage from an external source into their housings and casings.

Parts like underwater sensors or housings, outdoor electrical housings, sealed components, and components associated with vacuum sources are all prime candidates for vacuum leak testing.

Operation of instruments that supply vacuum to test parts instead of pressure works in a similar, yet essentially opposite, manner as pressure decay testing.

Vacuum Box testing is also used to check for any leaks or fault in the welding of bottom & annular plates of the storage tank. The vacuum pump attached creates a vacuum in the vacuum box, which shows bubbles on the soap water applied on the weld in case of any leaks or faults. This is one of the most adoptive test methods to detect leak or defects and widely used in the bottom plate of tank, ships and barge bottom plates.

Here at Nusatek, we provide vacuum testing services up to -1 bar. Using high end equipment available from us, we can provide the vacuum test services with quality and confidence. There are different requirements for different regulations that need to be met and we are ready to fulfill the requirement in terms of manpower and equipment.

Our Vacuum Testing Capabilities:

  • Tank welding - Flat surface joints, corner joints, lap surface joint

Load Testing

Load testing is the test of the strength of specific points for cableways, cranes, derricks, hoists, hooks, jacks and slings. They are mostly used in a system that measures load capability.

Most importantly, load testing is a performance check of mechanical lifting devices that are system critical.

For the purpose of testing, the load applied will be higher than the maximum load for normal operations.

Our acceptable criteria is considered passed when after visual inspection there is no deformation, cracks or other defects after maximum load is applied.

We currently cover our load testing up to 1.5 tons. Our procedures are according to American Society of Mechanical Engineers, ASME B30.20: 2003 (Chapter 20-1). We are dedicated in giving you the confidence for work involving loads.

For every test, we use calibrated equipment and only competent technicians are authorized to carry out testing work. Before the testing process starts, we inspect the physical condition for the unit under test and make sure there are no cracks and defects.

Our Load Testing Capabilities:

  • Chain Block
  • Hooks
  • Man Cages
  • Metal Boxes
  • Shackles
  • Sling wires
  • Pad eyes
  • Working Platform / Stage

Hydrostatic Testing

Hydrostatic Test is one of the methods in which pressure vessels such as pipelines, gas cylinders and tanks can be tested for strength and leaks. This method involves filling the vessels with a liquid such as water or oil. The water may be dyed to aid in visual leak inspection. The location of the leak can be easily detected and identified if the water contains colorant and pressure dropping from the start test pressure.

Hydrostatic test involves in using several of pressure measuring instruments such as pressure gauge and pressure recorder. These measuring equipments need to be calibrated or verified in order to maintain the confidence in the test. Most of the industry’s need for hydrostatic test is to ensure the safety factor in processes that involve pressure vessels. Depending on the laws and regulations, newly manufactured pieces and in-use vessels are usually qualified by conducting hydrostatic tests as part of the verification. Strength can optionally be tested by measuring permanent deformation of the unit. Some of the regulation’s need is to do hydrostatic test with regular intervals. This is also important to maintain the safety of the system.

Water or oil are nearly incompressible and therefore are the most common liquid used for hydrostatic tests. Water is cheap, easily available and usually harmless to the system. The test pressure is usually higher than the operating pressure typically by 150% depending on the end user’s requirements. By using liquid as a test medium, only little work is required for a high test pressure due to the nearly incompressible factor.

Generally, hydrostatic test requires pressure measuring devices such as pressure gauges and pressure recorders. Pressure gauges provide current readings for the pressure while pressure and temperature recorders record and monitor pressure behavior for a duration set by our end user or following reference standards. All of our measuring equipments will be calibrated for the purpose of the test.

Pumps are also an important part for hydrostatic test to provide various ranges of pressures according to testing requirements. Pumps will be used to inject and build up the pressure gradually safety reason. Reports will be issued after visual inspection based on requirements provided to state the fitness and strength of the UUTs.

Here at Nusatek, we provide hydrostatic test services depending on customer’s requirements in terms of the laws and regulations that need to be followed and the location that tests need to be commenced. Our capabilities for hydrostatic testing currently can reach up to 38,000 psig.
