Electrical Calibration

Electrical calibration refers to the process of verifying the performance of, or adjusting, any instrument that measure or tests electrical parameters. This discipline is usually referred to as dc and low frequency electrical metrology.  Principal parameters include voltage, current, resistance, inductance, capacitance, time and frequency.  Other parameters, including electrical power and phase, are also in this segment of metrology. Ratio metric comparisons of similar parameters are often performed to compare a known parameter.

Electrical calibration involves the use of precise devices that evaluate the performance of key properties for other devices called units under test (UUTs). Because these precise devices have thoroughly known performance characteristics compared to the UUT, performance evaluation and/or calibration adjustment of the UUT to identify or minimize errors is possible. Typically, the performance of such precision devices should be four or more times better than the UUT.



These precision devices fall into two broad categories. Electrical signal sources are often referred to as either calibrators or standards. Precision measurement devices are often classified as precision digital multimeters, measurement standards, or ratio bridges.

    Calibration of Digital Multimeter

    Figure above shows examples of digital multimeters. A digital multimeter (DMM) is a test tool used to measure two or more electrical values. The parameters available depend on the maker and the model of the instrument. Multimeters are one of the most widely used instruments in the industrial field. For the calibration of DMM, in giving you the confidence in measurement, we use standards that are at least four times better than DMM accuracy.

    Every parameter that exists must be calibrated in order to make sure the stability and sustainability of an instrument. Before the calibration process starts, we will inspect and clean the instrument as in our procedure for calibration. Every step will be performed by trained technicians. During the calibration, the environment will be controlled by referring to the requirements stated in International Standards. The concept for measurement used is direct measurement where the input injected will be equal to output obtained. All safety precautions will be taken into account before, during and after calibration. If in case any instrument is out of manufacturer’s specification, we will immediately notify our customer to get actual specification requirements.



    Calibration of Insulation Tester

    Insulation tester calibration is one of the most important verifications for working in the in-line resistance industry. Often overlooked is the accuracy of the instrument. No insulation is perfect. Even the slightest pinprick can cause dielectric breakdown.

    With the use of higher accuracy standards and our ISO 17025 compliant procedures, we will ensure the confidence during the measurement process for our customer.

    All calibration performed will have results that are traceable to NMIM, National Metrology Institute of Malaysia. All the parameters are calibrated using direct measurement method. The Decade Boxes that we use as standards provide incredibly accurate and stable measurements.

    Our facility at Nusatek Metrology Laboratories has the capability to test most Hi-pots, Break-down Testers, Earth Ground Meters, Insulation Testers, High Resistance Meters, Holiday Detectors, and Mega-Ohm Meters.
