CB Scan is one of the inspection techniques in Advance Ultrasonic Testing, commercially used for a Corrosion Monitoring Program where we measure the wall thickness of an inspection item. Corrosion Monitoring Program provides comprehensive monitoring of all critical components of industrial objects, assets, facilities and plants for signs of corrosion.
The CB Scan imaging and recording is performed through continuous capturing of wall thickness and the reflector’s coordinates along the probe path. It provides two dimensional presentations of data displayed as top view and cross sectional view of the inspection item.
The top view provides overview of all measurement data taken and presented in C-scan by using a colour scale to symbolize wall thickness. A trigger point of minimum wall thickness may be used to highlight the criticalness and the risks to components. In this inspection, a red colour scale is set for trigger point and the minimum critical wall thickness. This minimum critical wall thickness shall be provided by client’s maintenance representative.
The CB Scan will record data of both wall thickness measurement and locations in digital mode for each scanning line. The image can be viewed and analysed through the Omni PC software. Corrosion Monitoring can provide significant advantages when integrated into both preventative maintenance and the processes inherent to safety management programs. Based on the results of the Corrosion Monitoring program, informed decisions can be made, not only regarding the remaining life of the object affected by corrosion but also regarding life extension strategies, prospective material selection, and cost-effective methods for remedy of corrosion issues and problems.
